Anyone gone with a Blood Necro?
I am a N/E20 and have a 17th level Blood Magic when I prep with Awaken the Blood and Air Attunement. In PVP I lead off with Shadow Strike (53 damage + 53 life steal), Unholy Feast (46 life steal from all nearby opponents), Vampiric Gaze (66 life steal) and Vampiric Touch (80 life steal))
This lets me deal 298 damage (245 is stolen) in under five seconds and it ignores armor.
I also have Lightening Strike and Chain Lightning, but don't really use them.
I never see Necros do well in PVP, but this character kills people at will in battle. I have 48 Energy, and I do run out of steam in sustained battle. But if we can bring down a player quickly, the battle shifts to our side quickly too. Has anyone else taken this build?

Heh, I won't comment on this build, as I can count the times I've played a primary necro in PvP on one hand - without fingers - but it's certainly a very interesting topic, a spiking necro =P Whodda thunkit, as they say?

I think necros kick ass... if u can hold minions at lvl 18 and putrid explosion with rend enchantment it kicks ass... also - health degen...
we usually go w/ one necro in our group
3 elem 1 nec 3 monks and a mes

I wouldn't try for a spiking necro because, honestly, air eles do it much better. Some builds I've been a part of that have been very successful involved a necro spreading poison/disease to get everyone's health nice and low, then when some people start dropping, said necro starts spamming putrid explosion. If you managed to get people's health low enough, putrid spam can act like a nuke on steroids.

Actually our guild has built a necro blood spike build and we have sen flaws in it. To the poster that was talking why spike necro blood instead of air? ... easy ... to reap the reward of stealing blood ... thats the only reason. You're going to do the same amount of damage to a protective spirit opponent, blood necros just get the life back.
Our troubles we have run into included energy sustainability. Even running blood rituals back and forth to eachother we still eventually ran into problems. Its not a bad idea ... but the putrid exposion and mark of pain combo is definately more deadly. It all depends on what you want to do ...
spike or spam ...

I say go for it. Post back about your results.
Another reason to go with a spike necro is that people don't (yet) see it coming. Another reason is armor penetration, which works quite nicely against the current spirit spam build. Kill off Winter quickly, EoE kills all other Winters, suddenly Ranger's cold armor isn't looking so good...
I play a Blood/Death/Wild.Surv. N/R. I don't usually carry Unholy Feast or Vampiric Touch, because I don't like people that close to me. I carry Pin Down to keep them at bay, and I use Rotting Flesh + a Poison bowstring to make them loose health as I pull off Vampiric Gaze and Shadow Strike. This has worked very well for me. If I cast Serpent's Quickness, I can spam these two (usually) quicker than an opponent can heal. I usually start off the round by casting Favorable Winds, then run to the edge of its effect. That will often last out the round, and lets me build up energy while I'm still doing decent damage and poisoning people. If I have a bit to spare, I'll kindle my arrow. Virulence looks like fun too, but I don't yet have it.
Am I unstoppable? No. But people have in mind what a Necro does, and how to counter it. (I always love when I see one of those charts published here that says Mo>N>E>...) This is one of those builds that make people think, and switch tactics in the middle of play if they want to defeat me. I quickly become a priority target, and I make monks switch from healing to condition removal (if they carry it at all). This is also a build that teams well, and adjusts well to different tactics. I don't do curses, and there are those in PUGs that will flame me for it, but after we've won a couple of rounds they usually quiet down. The same people flame the Smiting Monk or the Illusory Warrior, etc. By the way, my guild also has a W/N who will often start the round off with a Blood Ritual on me. Between that and time spent just shooting people with my bow, I usually do okay energy wise. The other team's mesmer of course throws a wrench in that. I fear them if I can't kill them first.
USE your secondary. The only build that seems to do this often is the Wa/Mo. They are the only one allowed to do it by the l33t flamers. But see how effective your chain lightning will be once you kill the SpiritSpammers' Winter in the first 5 seconds of play.

This build was able to stand toe-to-toe against two Warrior/?s and I took them BOTH down with NO assistance, while the rest if the team chased the Mo and Ele down.
They were both complaining that it was a 'cheap' win, but after a 0-6 win four times in a row, I felt pretty good about it.
EDIT: What is EoE?

Edge of Extinction. And yes, many people use damage dealing necromancers. I have one with 15 blood as well, I don't tend to bother boosting to 17 as I don't find it worthwhile.

I use a blood necro (E/N 14 energy storage, 15 blood magic) in pvp (4v4) and its one of the best builds I used, the skills you said combined with 'life transfer' kept me alive and dealt massive damage to the opponents. Its very efficient when you play random pvp (small group size) ... but i wouldn't use it in hoh or gvg.

Quick question for you zorades.. How is it possible that you have managed to get 14 Energy Storage and 15 Blood magic? It isnt possible to have an attribute from your secondary class above 12, so... yeah. That said, I've made an E/N before myself and went all out blood magic and energy storage. Sure, you don't quite get the same damage as a primary necro, but you sure can spam like mad.

N/W with max blood and 12 weapon was fun in random arena when I got placed on a team with a few warriors and abused order of the vampire and flurry. If you use a blood N/W, I suggest setting up a network of around 4 life siphons before charging in, and then use your life sacrifice skills (touch of agony, order of pain/vampire + flurry if on a warrior-heavy team). Flip on dark aura for added pain. Then sustain yourself with vampiric touch, mark of subvsersion, and strip enchantment.
